2024 MLB ROY odds: Jackson Merrill closing in on Paul Skenes
Only lasts five innings Imanaga did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out three.
Impact Imanaga allowed two homers, the fifth time in 22 starts he's given up multiple long balls this season. However, the three-run blast off the bat of Jhonkensy Noel did not impact Imanaga's earned run line as it came following an error that had extended the fourth inning. Imanaga followed up by allowing three runs in the fifth, this time all earned, and a night that began with a promising three-run lead ended with him leaving with a four-run deficit. The five innings represented the Japanese rookie's shortest outing since allowing 10 runs over three innings on June 21 and extended a streak that has seen him allow three or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight outings. He'll carry a 3.16 ERA and 1.08 WHIP into his next start, tentatively slated to take place in the friendly confines against the Blue Jays.

Strikes out 10 in win Imanaga (9-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Twins.
Impact After a couple of middling performances, Imanaga was in dominant form for this game, recording his second double-digit strikeout effort in his last four starts. The only damage on his line came in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Royce Lewis. Imanaga now has a 3.06 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 128:18 K:BB over 123.1 innings over 21 starts this season. He's projected for a tough road matchup versus the Guardians next week.

Allows 10 hits in no-decision Imanaga did not factor into the decision in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing four runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Impact Imanaga coughed a solo homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the opening frame before settling in and holding the Cardinals scoreless over the next five innings. However, he began to unravel in the seventh, allowing a one-out single, followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Masyn Winn as St. Louis jumped out in front. The lefty was then relieved by Jorge Lopez with two outs in the frame and went on to be charged with a fourth run, marking the first time he's surrendered more than three runs in his last six starts. Imanaga gave up 10 hits on the night, the second most he's allowed in a game this season, and served up multiple home runs for only the fourth time on the campaign. On a positive note, he hasn't issued a walk in back-to-back outings and hasn't issued multiple walks since June 27 against the Giants (span of five starts).
AUGUST 2 • ROTOWIRE
Falls just shy of quality start Imanaga allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Saturday.
Impact Imanaga yielded a solo homer to Hunter Renfroe in the second inning but entered the sixth with a three-run lead. However, he couldn't get out of that frame, as the Royals got to him for three hits, including a Bobby Witt run-scoring double. Another run crossed the plate after Imanaga's departure, and he had a streak of four straight quality starts snapped. The rookie right-hander carries a 2.95 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 111:17 K:BB along with an 8-2 record through 19 appearances covering 109.2 innings on the campaign.

Continues strong play Sunday Imanaga allowed one run on two hits across seven innings but did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 2-1, 10-inning win over the Diamondbacks. He walked one and struck out 10.
Impact Imanaga was virtually flawless outside of a Eugenio Suarez solo home run in the seventh inning, but the Cubs didn't score any runs until the ninth, which denied the lefty a chance at his ninth win of the season. Imanaga has had a great debut campaign overall with a 2.86 ERA through 18 starts, and he's been particularly sharp lately, allowing just one run over 13 total innings in his last two outings. He's making a push for NL Rookie of the Year, though Paul Skenes has been outstanding as well and likely has the inside track. Either way, Imanaga has been a solid fantasy asset, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for Saturday against the Royals.

JULY 17 • MLB.COM
Dominant in final first-half start Imanaga (8-2) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Orioles. He allowed six hits and a walk, while striking out six.
Impact Imanaga finished the first half of the season in style, as he allowed zero runs in a start for the seventh time already this year. The lefty got off to a blazing start in his MLB debut, posting a 0.84 ERA across his first nine outings, before enduring a few lumps since then. However, he has a solid 3.00 ERA over his last three starts and 2.97 ERA overall, giving him some momentum heading into his All-Star appearance next week. Imanaga is tentatively set to take the mound again for the Cubs on July 20 against the Diamondbacks.

Pirates' Paul Skenes an All-Star just 8 weeks after debut, and 7 Phillies picked for All-Star Game
Strikes out eight in quality start Imanaga allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies.
Impact Imanaga held his own versus a tough opponent, though he allowed home runs to Rafael Marchan and Alec Bohm. This was Imanaga's fourth quality start in his last five outings, the exception being a 10-run anomaly versus the Mets on June 21. The southpaw is now at a 3.16 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 92:15 K:BB through 91 innings over 16 starts this season. He's projected for another challenging opponent next week when he's lined up to for a road start in Baltimore.
JULY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Start moved to Thursday Manager Craig Counsell said that Imanaga will make his next start in Thursday's series finale in San Francisco, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Impact Imanaga had previously been in line to start Wednesday, but he'll get an extra day to rest up after he was lit up for 10 earned runs in just three innings during his most recent outing Friday against the Mets. Despite his awful performance Friday, the 30-year-old southpaw has still been strong overall with a 2.96 ERA and 1.10 WHIP alongside an 81:12 K:BB through 79 innings over 14 starts. Counsell didn't name a replacement starter for Wednesday, though he noted a bullpen game is the most likely course of action.

Takes first loss Imanaga (5-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Brewers, allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over 4.1 innings.
Impact Imanaga's last scheduled start was rained out, and instead of pushing him back, the Cubs opted to build in some extra rest for the southpaw. That plan appears to have backfired, as the seven runs he allowed Wednesday matched the total he'd given up in his first nine starts combined. His ERA rose from 0.84 to 1.86, and he's added a 1.00 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB across 58 innings through his first 10 big-league starts. Imanaga will look to shake off his first poor outing when he next takes the mound, which is tentatively projected to be a home start versus the White Sox.
