Mark Vientos - Homers twice Thursday Vientos went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three total RBI in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the A's.
Impact Batting out of the two-hole for the first time this year, Vientos certainly made a case to stay at the top of the order -- the third baseman launched a two-run homer off Mitch Spence in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Michel Otanez in the fourth. Vientos had cooled off a bit after a hot start to his season. Thursday's performance was his first multi-hit game since July 26 -- he'd gone 10-for-50 (.200) in his subsequent 15 contests. Still, it's been an impressive campaign overall for Vientos, who's established himself as a regular in the Mets' lineup. He's now slashing .275/.333/.557 through 288 plate appearances with 19 homers, 48 RBI and 38 runs scored.

Jose Quintana - Shaky vs. Oakland Quintana didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the A's, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out one.
Impact Quintana struggled for most of Thursday's outing, though he'd manage to hold Oakland scoreless through three innings, despite loading the bases twice. However, the A's made the left-hander pay in the fourth, when JJ Bleday launched a grand slam following a pair of two-out walks. It's the third time in five starts that Quintana's issued four or more walks -- he's now allowed 12 runs over 15.2 innings in his last three outings. Overall, Quintana is 6-8 on the year with a 4.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 103:50 K:BB across 129 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, currently lined up for next week at home versus the Orioles.

Impact Reid-Foley's shoulder has been deemed structurally sound and there are no plans for any testing. However, he has been tagged for seven runs and has walked eight over 4.2 rehab innings, so the Mets want him to build up some arm strength before he's cleared to pitch in games again. Reid-Foley has been out since late June and it now seems unlikely that he'll return before September.

Brandon Nimmo - Battling stomach flu Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Nimmo is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics due to a case of the stomach flu, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Mendoza noted that Nimmo was unable to get much sleep Wednesday night due to the ailment, so the Mets will hold him out of the lineup as they wrap up their series against Oakland with a day game. Jeff McNeil will pick up a start in the outfield in place of Nimmo, who has gone 3-for-32 with 11 strikeouts over his last nine starts to bring his batting average down to .226 for the season.
