Guardians look to prolong win streak, play the Brewers

The Cleveland Guardians will attempt to build upon a five-game win streak with a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers
1 HOUR AGO • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Jackson Chourio - Swats 15th homer Chourio went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a double Thursday in a 6-4 win against the Dodgers.
Impact Chourio helped Milwaukee get off to a fast start with his two-run blast off Jack Flaherty in the first inning. The long ball was the rookie outfielder's 15th of the season, and with 16 thefts on the campaign, he's one of 14 big-leaguers to reach the 15-15 mark thus far. Chourio is also slashing a solid .274/.320/.441 with 53 RBI and 58 runs through 108 contests.

Brice Turang - Swipes two bags Thursday Turang went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and two stolen bases in a 6-4 win over the Dodgers on Thursday.
Impact Turang began the bottom of the first inning with a double and subsequently crossed the plate on Jackson Chourio's two-run homer. That wasn't the end of Turang's production, as he reached base two more times and stole a base in each instance. The second baseman began August in a 5-for-35 funk, but he's gone 3-for-5 with two walks and three thefts over his past two contests. His two swipes Thursday moved him back into second place in the majors with 36 steals on the campaign.

Devin Williams - Records another save Williams earned a save against the Dodgers on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.
Impact Williams was called upon to close the door on the Dodgers for the second straight day, and he again succeeded in impressive fashion. On Wednesday, he retired Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman in order, and he bested Ohtani and Betts -- both on strikeouts -- again Thursday. Williams has been as brilliant as ever since returning from a back injury July 28, recording three saves while allowing just one run and posting an 11:1 K:BB over six innings spanning six appearances.
3 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Tobias Myers - Tosses 5.2 frames in no-decision Myers allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out one batter over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday.
Impact Myers didn't come close to matching the 7.1-inning scoreless gem he tossed in his previous outing, but he would have had another quality start Thursday had he been able to get one more out. The right-hander exited in the sixth with the score tied 3-3, and he watched from the dugout as one more run was added to his ledger when Elvis Peguero allowed an inherited runner to cross the plate. While this wasn't among Myers' better starts -- especially from a strikeout perspective, as he induced just four whiffs and notched only one punchout -- he did show the ability to hang around against elite competition. The rookie has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in 11 of his past 12 appearances, and he has a sparkling 1.86 ERA over 72.2 frames during that span.

The NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers will have to continue their playoff push without Christian Yelich

Christian Yelich - Scheduled for season-ending surgery Yelich will undergo season-ending back surgery Friday.
Impact Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list July 24 due to low-back inflammation, which has been an issue for him over the past few seasons. He was focused on rest and rehab since landing on the IL, but due to a lack of progress in his recovery, the three-time All Star has elected to undergo surgery and shift his focus to being 100% healthy for 2025. He'll end his season with a slash line of .315/.406/.504 with 21 stolen bases, 44 runs scored, 11 home runs and 42 RBI across 314 plate appearances. Gary Sanchez and Tyler Black will continue to serve in a platoon at designated hitter with Yelich sidelined for the rest of the season.

Guardians vs. Brewers Prediction, Odds, Picks - August 16
Enoli Paredes - Set to begin rehab assignment Paredes (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Paredes has been out since early July with right forearm tendinitis but is ready to test things out in a game setting. The reliever is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible for activation until early September, so his rehab assignment will last multiple weeks.
17 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Tyler Black - Exiting starting nine Thursday Black is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
Impact After getting called up from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Black sat out the Brewers' series opener versus the Dodgers but served as the designated hitter in both of the past two contests, going 0-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts. He'll find himself back on the bench for the finale, with Jake Bauers replacing Black in the lineup at DH. The Brewers could take a hot-hand approach to the DH spot while Christian Yelich (back) is on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

Devin Williams - Picks up second save Williams picked up the save over the Dodgers on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.
Impact Williams entered the contest with a one-run lead in the ninth and needed only seven pitches to retire the side and secure his second save of the season. The right-hander has now pitched perfect innings in each of his first two save appearances, posting a 4:0 K:BB over that span. Williams has also walked just one batter on the campaign and appears locked in as Milwaukee's closer down the stretch.
21 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Brice Turang - Triple, stolen base in win Turang went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple, a stolen base and a run scored while also drawing a walk in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.
Impact Turang walked and stole second in his first trip to the plate before adding an RBI triple and also scoring a run in the second to make it a 3-3 ballgame. The shortstop had gone 0-for-11 over his last three starts before posting his third triple of the season in Wednesday's win. He's batting just .162 (6-for-37) since the start of August with two extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs scored while the stolen base marked his 34th of the campaign.
21 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Frankie Montas - Fans six in no-decision Montas did not factor into the decision in a win over the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and three walks over five innings while striking out six.
Impact Montas struggled early, allowing the first four batters to reach in the opening frame, though the leadoff man would only reach due to a fielding error by Joey Ortiz. The right-hander saw three unearned runs come across in the frame before holding the Dodgers scoreless over the next four innings. Montas has now allowed three runs or fewer in all three of his starts since being acquired by Milwaukee and has posted at least five strikeouts in four straight outings. Over that former stretch he's gone 1-0 while posting a 18:7 K:BB.
