Fans eight in win Perez (3-5) picked up the win Wednesday against the Pirates, allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out eight in 5.1 innings.
Impact Other than a solo home run by Joey Bart in the sixth inning, Perez was outstanding Wednesday, racking up a season-high eight strikeouts en route to his third win of the season. Perez has excelled since being acquired at the trade deadline, compiling a robust 1.96 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB in 18.1 innings (three starts). Even with the strong first impression, the 33-year-old has surrendered four long balls during that stretch and his 1.5 HR/9 (17th percentile) remains a concern moving forward.

Fans six in quality start Perez came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-2 extra-inning win over the Marlins, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out six.
Impact Both runs came on back-to-back solo shots by Jake Burger and Jonah Bride in the fourth inning, but otherwise Perez was sharp in his second outing for San Diego. The veteran southpaw tossed 90 pitches (58 strikes) en route to his third straight quality start and seventh of the year, but he was still on the hook for the loss until Jackson Merrill forced extra innings with a solo homer of his own in the ninth. Perez will look for his first win in a Padres uniform when he takes the mound next week at home against the Pirates -- the team that sent him west at the trade deadline.

Quality start in team debut Perez allowed a run on three hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Saturday.
Impact Perez's lone mistake in his San Diego debut was a solo home run surrendered to Hunter Goodman. Over his last two starts, Perez has allowed just one run across 12 innings, and it was encouraging that he avoided issuing a walk for the first time since May 8. The veteran southpaw now has a 4.96 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 70:32 K:BB over 89 innings across 17 starts between the Padres and the Pirates this year. He's projected for a favorable road start at Miami in his next outing.

Debuting for new team Saturday Perez is scheduled to make his first start for the Padres on Saturday versus the Rockies at Petco Park.
Impact Acquired Tuesday from the Pirates in exchange for left-hander Ronaldys Jimenez, Perez will bolster the back end of the San Diego rotation. He may not be in line for a long-term stay in the rotation, however, as Joe Musgrove (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment this weekend and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list around mid-August to take over Perez's starting role. Perez had functioned as little more than an innings eater for Pittsburgh prior to the trade, turning in a 5.20 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 8.3 K-BB% over 16 starts.

Sent to San Diego The Pirates traded Perez to the Padres on Tuesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact Perez will claim the fifth spot in San Diego's rotation, as the team had been using a four-man setup prior to Tuesday's trade deadline. However, the 33-year-old southpaw has struggled heavily since returning from the injured list in late June, putting up a 6.31 ERA and 1.87 WHIP across 25.2 innings.

Blanks Cards for second win Perez (2-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-0 victory over the Cardinals, allowing four hits and five walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out two.
Impact The veteran lefty wasn't exactly sharp as he tossed only 51 of 91 pitches for strikes and set a new season high in walks, but Perez was able to avoid hard contact and keep the Cards off the board. It's his first win since April 4, and it was a much-needed bounceback effort after he got tagged for 11 runs in 8.1 innings over his prior two outings. Perez will take a 5.20 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 63:32 K:BB through 83 innings on the year into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Houston.

Struggles in no-decision Perez did not factor into the decision Friday against the Phillies, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact Perez was spared the loss after Pittsburgh rallied for a walk-off win, though it's been a tough go for the left-hander of late -- Perez has allowed 18 runs across 19.2 innings in his last four outings. Overall, he's 1-5 on the year with a 5.61 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 61:27 K:BB across 15 starts (77 innings). Perez will look to get on track in his next outing, currently lined up for next week at home against St. Louis.

No match for Brewers Perez (1-5) allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Brewers.
Impact Perez gave up two runs in the first inning, and his start was punctuated by a Rhys Hoskins solo home run in the fifth. Consistency has been an issue for Perez since he returned from a groin injury -- he's given up 12 runs over 16 innings since his return, though he's allowed just two homers over three starts in that span. The veteran southpaw is at a 5.15 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 57:25 K:BB through 73.1 innings over 14 starts this season.
JULY 11 • ROTOWIRE
Sharp in no-decision Perez pitched 7.1 innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Thursday, allowing one unearned run on six hits while striking out two and walking one.
Impact For the second time this season, Perez pitched into the seventh and both of those times he's come away with a no-decision. The 33-year-old lefty looked a lot better Thursday than in his last start, in which he allowed six runs. Perez has fared much better at home this season with a 3.65 ERA in seven starts, compared to a 5.97 ERA in six road starts.
JULY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Headed to injured list Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Tuesday in an interview with 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh that Perez (groin) will be placed on the 15-day injured list.
Impact Perez suffered a left groin injury during Sunday's start against Atlanta, and while the severity is unclear at the moment, it's evidently bad enough that the left-hander will be sidelined for at least a couple weeks. Quinn Priester looms as an obvious candidate to replace Perez in the Pittsburgh rotation. Perez's next turn will come up Sunday in Toronto.

Shaky in no-decision Perez came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Giants, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out...
Impact The veteran southpaw threw only 56 of 98 pitches for strikes, but an Oneil Cruz error in the first inning helped soften the blow to Perez's ERA. He's completed six innings only once in his last seven starts, posting a 6.37 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB through 35.1 innings over that stretch, but Pittsburgh doesn't have many healthy alternatives for its rotation right now. Perez will try to turn things around in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against Atlanta.
