Max Fried - Takes seventh loss Fried (7-7) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 5.1 innings in a loss to San Francisco on Thursday.
Impact Fried gave up two runs in the second inning and another in the sixth, which was more than enough for San Francisco to hand him a defeat on a day when Atlanta's offense was shut out. The southpaw did at least manage his longest outing over his three starts since returning from the IL on Aug. 4, and this was the first time he's given up fewer than four earned runs during that span. It's unclear if the forearm issue that landed him on the injured list is still bothering him, but Fried has a 7.90 ERA over the three starts since his activation.

Impact David O'Brien of The Athletic speculates that Anderson appears close to ready to help the big-league rotation after this strong outing on 93 pitches. Anderson had a 3.86 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and an 8:6 K:BB over 11.2 innings in his previous two starts at Triple-A, so things are trending up. The 26-year-old righty had Tommy John surgery in April of 2023 and began his rehab assignment two months ago. Grant Holmes has been holding his own in the fifth starter's spot and Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) is due back soon, so it's unclear when Anderson will get the call.

Impact Soler's hamstring caused him to come out of Wednesday's game early and miss Thursday's contest, but manager Brian Snitker labeled him as day-to-day, so the 32-year-old outfielder likely won't need to spend time on the IL.
